In a heartfelt display of corporate responsibility, UCS Facility Management Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), has provided free professional cleaning services to residents of Nanakrom, a community near East Legon Hills in the Adentan Municipality. This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to support communities in need.

The clean-up efforts come as a direct response to the devastating floods caused by the heavy rains of September 22, 2025, which left the Nanakrom community severely affected, with many homes destroyed and millions of cedis worth of property lost.

UCS Stepping Up to Help

Nanakrom, a community that has faced recurrent flooding since June 3, 2016, lies on the periphery of UCS’s operations, making it a natural area for the company to step in and assist. In light of the recent disaster, UCS Facility Management took swift action to bring some relief to the victims by offering free professional cleaning services to help salvage what was left of the flood-affected homes.

Speaking to the media, the Operations Manager for UCS, Mr. Grant Daniel Kuao, explained the company’s motivation behind the initiative:
“As part of our CSR, we decided to offer free professional cleaning services to the flood victims who have been grappling with floodwaters for the past few days,” he said. “UCS is committed to helping communities, especially in times of crisis, and that’s why we decided to act swiftly.”

Restoring Homes, Restoring Hope

The clean-up operation covered over 10 homes in Nanakrom, working to restore livelihoods and bring hope to the flood victims. A team of 10 professional cleaners was dispatched to the area, equipped with the necessary tools, including floor scrubbing machines, wet and dry vacuum cleaners, and other specialized equipment. The cleaning operation was expected to span three days, with hopes of expanding as more residents learned about the free services available.

The Senior Marketing Officer of UCS, Mr. Stephen Afful, highlighted the scale of the operation, saying,
“We’re working to clean up homes, and we’re collaborating with Zoomlion to remove debris and filth left behind by the floods. This initiative would have cost us around GHS 50,000, but we believe it’s an important investment in the community’s well-being.”

The Human Toll of the Floods

For residents like Mrs. Mavis Kevi, the flood disaster has been nothing short of devastating. Mrs. Kevi, one of the affected residents, shared her thoughts on the flood’s origins:
“The problem started after the June 3, 2016, disaster. Many people have built on waterways, causing the flooding that we experience now,” she explained. “When we first came here, there were no floods, but as more people developed the area and built on the waterways, things started to go wrong.”

More than 10 homes in the area have lost everything—cars, appliances, furniture, and school books. The floods have disrupted the lives of countless residents, with children unable to attend school due to lost books and uniforms.

A Call for Immediate Action

In light of the ongoing flooding issues, Mrs. Kevi and other residents are urging the Adentan Municipal Assembly to widen the only drainage in the area to allow for better water flow and prevent future disasters.

While UCS’s timely intervention has provided much-needed relief, the long-term solution requires cooperation from local authorities to tackle the root causes of the flooding.

Gratitude for the Support

On behalf of the flood victims, Mrs. Kevi expressed her deep gratitude to UCS Facility Management for their timely intervention.
“We are really thankful to UCS Facility Management Ghana Limited for coming to our aid when we needed it most. Your help has made a big difference in our lives during this tough time.”
