UCS Facility Management, a division of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), has kicked off its first community volunteer clean-up initiative in Accra’s East Legon area. The event, part of the “Adopt a Street” campaign by Zoomlion Ghana Limited — another JGC subsidiary — is aimed at fostering a cleaner, healthier environment for residents.
The Managing Director of UCS Facility Management, Yaa Dansua Ampofo, shared insights with the media, emphasizing that the clean-up exercise was part of a broader commitment to corporate social responsibility. “Our responsibilities as a company go far beyond profits and productivity. We also have an obligation to contribute to a cleaner, greener environment,” she said.
The event, which took place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, involved a variety of activities such as weeding, sweeping, and painting the median along American House-Bawaleshie Street, as well as the surrounding traffic light intersections. The goal was to enhance the overall cleanliness of the area, creating a more pleasant and healthier environment for both locals and visitors.
Encouraging Broader Participation
Yaa Dansua Ampofo also used the opportunity to urge other organizations to join in the “Adopt a Street” initiative. “Corporate entities have the resources and platforms to make a tangible difference in the communities where they operate. By participating in clean-up activities like these, we not only contribute to the beauty of our surroundings but also serve humanity,” she said.
Positive Community Impact
The clean-up exercise, which began at 7 a.m., was met with enthusiasm and gratitude from the residents of East Legon. Many expressed their appreciation for UCS Facility Management’s efforts and encouraged other corporate bodies to follow suit.
One local resident, Nicholas, pointed out that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility. “It’s not just about what corporations do; we all have a part to play. I urge the public to take full advantage of initiatives like the Zoomlion ‘Adopt a Street’ campaign to help build the clean environment we all desire,” he said.
